On the whole, GALI GALI CHOR HAI amuses intermittently. Fortunately, the movie goes public at a juncture when anti-corruption appears to be the essence of the season. But the film could've done with a far more hard-hitting conclusion!

3ups and downs: Akshaye’s performance, especially the scene where he slaps the cop and the corrupt politician leaves an impact. The victims of corruption and politics will be able to relate to the plight of Bharat. An abrupt ending and little publicity will act as a hindrance for the film.

What’s Good: A few satirical scenes; the entertaining dialogues; the acting.
What’s Bad: The small-town feel of the film; the lack of real entertainment for the city audience of today; the over-stretching of the drama; the lack of a proper climax.
Verdict: Gali Gali Chor Hai will not get the appreciation of the audience. Given its poor start, it cannot hope to pick up, due to lack of positive word of mouth.
Loo break: Not really.
Watch or Not?: Watch it if you want to see a well-intentioned film which also boasts of good performances.

The final scene and the dialogue by Bharat, 'Yeh system ke gaal pe tamacha hai' is what really has you reeling. He does get to play Ram after all, using all the strength of a Hanuman!
The Bomb Blast angle notwithstanding (not convincing, it could have been interwoven more smartly or could have been done away with), GALLI GALLI CHOR HAIN is indeed an eye-opener. Positioned cleverly around election time, it should encourage those who never leave their homes to exercise their franchise.
Don't mistake the name Bharat for the main protagonist. India can have many more Anna Hazares who can stand up against the system.
The five star rating is for the concept and the intelligent way it has been executed, without going over-the-top. It is also for the director's chutzpah. Methinks it should be made tax free.
This movie is Timely, Topical and Terrific!

The dialogues are often sarcastic (extracting a confession in the stolen fan case, the constable tells Bharat and his father, "Chor pe hamein poora bharosa hai ki woh jhooth nahin bolega"), suggesting that Jafry intends this film to be a caustic satire on the lines of the sitcom Office Office.
Akshaye and the other characters play it straight and make a sincere effort. And though comedy should ideally be born out of their pitiable situations, it is born out of their inability to find such situations.

Some of the songs in the film too could've easily been avoided in order to give a crisp flow to the storyline. Editing is weak with some abrupt scene cuts clearly visible. There are scenes completely out of focus and very badly shot.
Over all, having a relatable plot at hand, Gali Gali Chor Hai, could've worked with a tighter screenplay and better execution.

The common man's rage, which you expect to dazzle you (or rescue you from the repeated adventures of Bharat babu) doesn't happen right until the end of the film, by when, you want to clap simply out of the delight that the film is over.
Gali Gali Chor Hai may hope to ride the Anna Hazare tide but it does nothing to put a point across and it certainly fails to entertain.

There are a few digressions in the film when it tries to focus on dirty politics but it’s the powerful performances and engaging storyline that brings life to ‘Gali Gali Chor Hai’. The film champions the cause of common man in the middle-class milieu, something that makes it realistic and more relatable.

Akshaye Khanna, for a pleasant change, doesn't go theatrical despite his staged Ram Leela acts. He maintains restrain in his performance and convincingly brings out the susceptibility of a common man without overdoing it either. Annu Kapoor, as the corrupt constable, dominates the bureaucratic escapades and is the scene-stealer. Vijay Raaz is funny in his two-bit role. Satish Kaushik, as the plump papa, plays his part well. Amit Mistry makes for a good villain. Shriya Saran looks beautiful. Mughda Godse was absolutely avoidable. Veena Malik's item number is downright vulgar.
Despite a decent premise, this one falls short of being a fan-tastic film. Alas Gali Gali Bore Hai!
