Yash Raj too has had their share of shaadis and baaraats on celluloid. Be it DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE or BAND BAAJA BAARAAT, the production house has successfully come up with stories that had the viewer thirsting for more. MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN more than lives up to the legacy. Sure, it has the trademark flamboyancy and family drama associated with Yash Raj, but it's totally different from what we've watched thus far. The performances are easy on the eyes. The unlikely chemistry between Katrina and Imran coupled with Ali Zafar's impeccable comic timing keeps you glued to the screen. Imran, frankly, seems the apt choice for this role and he more than lives up to it. Katrina is only getting better and more endearing with every release. Ali Zafar is a supremely talented actor and this film proves it yet again. On the whole, MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN is a delectably wholesome, heartening, feel-good entertainer. Not just a comedy, but also a tender, bittersweet saga, this rom-com is sure to melt your heart, then restore it anew all over again. Yet another winner from Yash Raj!

What’s Good: The entertaining screenplay; the emotional undercurrent of the drama; Katrina Kaif’s fantastic performance; the hit music and the eye-pleasing song picturisations.
What’s Bad: The screenplay dips at a few places; a few comic scenes seem forced.
Verdict: Mere Brother Ki Dulhan has reasonable entertainment value, very good music, exciting song picturisations which will all result in a good run at the box-office

Directed by first-timer Ali Abbas Zafar, 'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' starts off breezily, with enough comic moments to keep you engaged. There's an amusing scene in which Dimple subjects Luv to a Koffee With Karan-style rapidfire interview on Skype, and another sequence in which she distracts Kush while riding pillion on his scooter. But it's when the film introduces its conflict at intermission point that everything begins to go downhill.

'Mere Brother Ki Dulhan' is a strictly-by-the-template rom com. Not any old rom com, but a Yashraj one. Cue clean-cut hero. Smashing heroine. Good-looking second lead who nearly steals the show. The second half is a plodding, utterly predictable we-know-where-we-have-to-get-to but don’t-quite-know-how-to-get-there affair. This is a Yashraj rom com where funny-smart lines are a substitute for good old passion. Don’t go looking for any. Don’t go looking for any subtle notes, either. There aren’t any.

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan tries hard to do a Hrishikesh Mukherjee in a Yash Raj set up but is held back by a middling script that banks excessively on charisma, camaraderie and a common malady among present-day aspiring filmmakers -- fanboyism. And while the references from RD's retro chartbusters to Dabangg's clout are all very nice, it's not novel any more.Mere Brother Ki Dulhan is a pretty ordinary effort. It's the kind of movie where everyone looks catalogue cool and beams with enthusiasm to make the going-ons appear droll and exciting. And though one's a sourpuss for not buying it, I'll take the risk of being one.

Every year, YRF launches a director or two, who then make the same films other directors were already making for the banner. There’s not a shred of originality, not even an attempt to rise over the mindlessness; just a set pattern that is replicated to the T, even though it’s met with little success time and again. The brief must have been clear: ‘Don’t use your brains, just do what we’ve been doing for years now. It worked the last time; it’ll probably work again. If not, we’ll try again the next time.

It's an interesting debut by director Ali Abbas Zafar, yet ironically something seems to hold him back from creating a full blown comedy. The first half of the film, with the umpteen wedding preparations, gets too long drawn and the fun and games that Katrina tries to infuse in the proceedings seem a bit forced. All in all, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan holds out a promise for a pleasant weekend viewing.

MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN oscillates between mundane to sad after showing an initial spark of brilliance. So much time wasted in the 'I love you' nonsense that in the last scene, you feel sorry for the dads of the boy and girl. Continuous references to old YRF films too don't add value. In fact, it is like making mockery out of an already juvenile scene. There's not much on offer in this film. Whatever is there is finished off in the first half hour. After that it drags. The twist in the tale, too, is far-fetched, not becoming of an intelligent love story. Sad, because it had talent in the form of Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif. And even though Katrina is having the time of a life in a care-free role, it is Ali Zafar, who plays Imran Khan's older brother, who steals the lightning and thunder. Ali is an assertive actor who has a confident body language. He speaks even before he utters a word - with his actions. He is the only bright spark in this film. Dynamite stuff.

On paper, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan's dimple must have sounded like a terrific story. A 27-year-old who has lived life as a wild child, growing up in London to a diplomat father, decides to settle down to an arranged marriage. But Katrina Kaif plays her as a curiously blank piece of paper. It's as difficult to imagine her as a rocker chick who carries beer in her thaila and smokes a bidi. She tries hard, but if the movie stays even marginally afloat it is because of Imran Khan. He's boyish, charming as the sensible younger brother of the very self aware and very filmi Ali Zafar.Ali Abbas Zafar gets a lot right. A large part of the film is a spoof--from Dabangg to My Name Is Khan. Some of it also an ode--from Padosan to Mughal e Azam. Some of it works, a lot of it doesn't.

Plus Points: Ali Zafar, Music, Cinematography
Minus Points: Script
Analysis: The film could have been made much better for entertainment value. Yes it does entertain but in parts. Humor added to it is not very novel but manages to get a smile on your faces. But a film with high expectations that it was fails to impress.
Final Word:It’s a once watch.

The title of the film and the promo give out the entire story leaving very little for you to guess and whatever little ambiguity that was left also got cleared by the repeated reinforcement of the story by the lead cast Imran Khan, Katrina Kaif and Ali Zafar who extensively spoke about the film in its publicity campaign. But for the ones who still couldn't get it right here's a gist of the one line plot.Imran Khan's luck on rom-coms seems to be shining for a while. Katrina Kaif is one of the leading ladies of the industry. Ali Zafar has track of the much acclaimed Tere Bin Laden as his last film. So there are definitely reasons enough in this film other than its story or script to watch it. If the same goes for you, take your pick!

Surely a treat for Katrina’s fans, as it will be an experience to witness her talent. Also, for those Bollywood lovers, who enjoy entertainment sans a need to find a story, MBKD will be a perfect watch. A second half, which is a bit too dragged acts as an hindrance and slows down the flick to some extent. Imran-Katrina’s first time on-screen jodi can also be a reason to spend on the ticket. Go grab one, as this one is purely a paisa vasool.

‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ starts promisingly - with a nod to that most classical of classic Bollywood comedies ‘Padosan’.We did feel that the second half of the film was weaker than the first, and not entirely confident of its tone. But some scenes and situations do stand out in ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ overall, as much for their honesty as their humour. Watch Dimple’s response after Kush wonders why someone as free-spirited as her is opting for an arranged marriage; the ‘Koffee With Karan’ inspired rapid-fire Q&A round with a tongue-in-cheek salute to Salman Khan; Luv’s jealousy on seeing his ex with a new man; and how you can never really hide anything from your best friends.Final verdict: ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ is fairly entertaining, and its three leads are engaging through most of it. Just don’t go expecting too much from the movie and you’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
